Special Events Advisory for Friday, Aug. 14 – Sunday, Aug. 16

SEATTLE—The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers to be aware of several events happening around the city through the weekend that will affect area traffic.

The Seahawks play their pre-season opener Friday at CenturyLink, and the Sounders play at Centurylink on Sunday. Hempfest begins Friday and runs through the weekend. Seattle Street Food Festival is on Saturday and Sunday. Rainier Valley Heritage Festival and Parade happen Saturday afternoon and evening.

FRIDAY, AUG. 14:

Sunset Supper at Pike Place Market: The 20th Annual celebration of the region’s restaurants, wineries and breweries. Sip and sample gourmet food and chef presentations from7:30 to 11 p.m. About 1,400 people are expected to attend.

Seahawks at CenturyLink Field: The Seattle Seahawks play the Denver Broncos at 7 p.m. About 60,000 people are expected to attend.

FRIDAY, AUG. 14 – SUNDAY, AUG. 16:

Seattle Hempfest: The three-day festival at Myrtle Edwards and Centennial Park begins on Friday at 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The festival continues on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with food vendors, music and speakers forums. About 40,000 people are expected to attend each day.

SATURDAY, AUG. 15 – SUNDAY, AUG. 16:

Seattle Street Food Festival: Celebration of Seattle’s street food and culinary crafts with food trucks, pop-ups and music at the Discovery Center in South Lake Union. Festival runs from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday with a Night Market, and on Sunday from 11a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival will close Ninth Avenue North from Republican Street to Denny Way and on the side streets between Eighth Avenue North and Westlake Avenue. About 10,000 people are expected to attend.

SATURDAY, AUG. 15:

Geocaching Block Party: Celebrating 15 years of geocaching on International Geocaching Day. The event will be held in the Solstice Plaza in Fremont from11 a.m. to 5 p.m. About 2,500 people are expected to attend.

Rainier Valley Heritage Festival and Parade: Family friendly festival celebrating summer and diversity.  The festival takes place in the Columbia City neighborhood on Rainier Avenue South between South Alaska and South Brandon streets from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The 23rd Annual Rainier Valley Heritage Parade kicks off at 12 p.m. at Rainier Avenue South and South 42nd Street heading north on Rainier Avenue South to South Alaska Street by 1:30 p.m. Rainier Ave South will be closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.between South Orcas and Alaska streets. 3,000 people are expected to attend.

Under the Needle Art Show: A showcase of art in ink in Belltown in Second Avenue between Blanchard and Lenora streets from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Second Avenue traffic will be rerouted onto Third Avenue during the event. About 200 people are expected to attend.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 16:

Sounders at CenturyLink Field: Seattle Sounders vs. Orlando City at 2 p.m. About 35,000 people are expected to attend.
