**don’t miss the I-90 closures due to Blue Angels

SEATTLE – The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers to be aware of several events happening around the city through the weekend that will affect area traffic. Seafair Fleet Week and Boeing Maritime Celebration begin Wednesday afternoon. Seafair Weekend events run all weekend with brief I-90 closures for Blue Angels starting Thursday. Magnolia Summerfest and Seafair Parade are on Saturday and Sunday. Mariners play on Wednesday, and the Sounders on Saturday.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 29-SUNDAY, AUG. 2:

Seafair Fleet Week and Boeing Maritime Celebration: Ships arrive in the Port of Seattle to celebrate and honor members of the military. The Parade of Ships begins at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday with a procession of vessels through Elliott Bay. Ship tours on piers 66, 69, and 90 are open Thursday until Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Expect traffic congestion along the waterfront. About 10,000 people are expected to attend throughout the week.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 29:

Mariners at Safeco Field: Seattle Mariners vs. Arizona, game begins at 12:40 p.m. About 34,000 people are expected to attend.

FRIDAY, JULY 31 – SUNDAY, AUG. 2:

Seafair Weekend: The Blue Angels perform their anticipated fan-favorite aerial show and the hydro boat races take to Lake Washington.  Kids’ activities, food vendors and bands play all weekend long.  The festivities on Friday and Saturday start at 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Genesee Park and Lake Washington Boulevard and on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. The I-90 floating bridge and certain ramps will close intermittently from I-5 to Island Crest Way on Mercer Island while the Blue Angels practice for and perform the Seafair Air Show. Attendance is expected at 50,000 per day on Friday and Saturday, and 75,000 on Sunday.

SATURDAY, AUG. 1-SUNDAY, AUG. 2:

Umoja Fest Africatown Heritage Festival 2015: The Umoja Fest African Heritage Festival celebrates and honors African American history, culture and community in Judkins Park with bands, fashion shows and basketball competitions.  The festival runs from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  About 4,500 people are expected to attend over the weekend.

Magnolia Summerfest and Magnolia Seafair Parade and Kid’s Parade: The annual two-day community festival featuring the annual Art Show, local merchants’ sidewalk sale, craft booths, clowns, and pony rides at the Magnolia Community Center and Ballfields on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. The Magnolia Seafair and Kid’s parade start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at West Raye Street and 34th Avenue West, heads southbound on 34th Avenue West, east on West McGraw Street, and northbound on 32nd Avenue West returning to the festival grounds. About 4,800 people are expected to attend throughout the weekend.

SATURDAY, AUG. 1:

Umoja Fest Africatown Heritage Parade: The parade features drill teams, African drum and dance, floats and community organizations starting at 1:00 p.m. at 23rd Avenue and East Union Street. The route heads southbound on 23rd, east on East Cherry Street, southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way, west on South Jackson Street and southbound on 23rd Avenue into the Festival at Judkins Park. About 975 people are expected to attend.

Art of the City Street Fest: Live music, performances, street art, interactive installations and special exhibitions featuring local artist in Pioneer Square area on Prefontaine Place South between Washington Street and Yesler Way. The festival runs from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. About 1,500 people are expected to attend. http://www.artofthecityfest.com/

Sounders at CenturyLink Field: Seattle Sounders FC play the Vancouver Whitecaps at 7:00 p.m. About 60,000 people are expected to attend
